POSTECH(Pohang University of Science and Technology) has grown into one of the world’s leading science and technology research-oriented universities. Its 3,000 students, 800 researchers and 230 faculty members represents the brightest minds studying and researching at the large 165 hectare campus with the state-of-the-art facilities located in the southern east coast of Korea. POSTECH Center for Ubiquitous Manufacturing, led by Prof. Suk-Hwan Suh, focuses on researching core technologies required for the realisation of ubiquitous manufacturing environment and intends to contribute to transferring those core technologies to related industries of the nation. The objectives of this center are to research core technologies required for the realisation of ubiquitous manufacturing environment and to transfer the core technologies to related industries of the nation by actively pursuing collaborative research both in Korea and abroad to maximize the capabilities of the professors and investigators concerned and by educating and producing young research manpower for the future with a mission to grow into a world class research center in the ubiquitous manufacturing field.
POSTECH Center for Ubiquitous Manufacturing has been involved in projects about STEP-NC, an advanced information model for manufacturing, by participating in international standard development(ISO 14640 series) as an ISO SC1/TC184/WG7 member, and has also been involved in projects dealing with future manufacturing paradigm comprising transparent manufacturing, autonomous manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing.
